Having already given a worthy plug to Warkworth Drama Group for their upcoming production of Jack and the Beanstalk, I now turn my attention to events closer to home. Much like last year, Broadclyst Theatre Group are bringing their own special style of pantomime to the South-Western stage - but unlike last year, I'm personally involved!
Having had a successful run last time round with Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, this year the group is turning its attention to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Before you ask your first question - yes, we are referring to them as dwarfs; they will actually be played by children in this version. In every other aspect, the panto stays playfully true to both the original fairy tale and the beloved Disney version - excepting the inclusion of the Dame, various sidekicks and my character's romance with a terrible troll...
Having appeared in a minor capacity in Calendar Girls for the same group back in May, I'll be appearing in this panto as Marmaduke, the Queen's Chamberlain and one-time love interest of the Dame. This production is being helmed by Rachel Cunningham, who also played Chris in that same production of Calendar Girls. We're right in the middle of rehearsals with this first-time director and we're already having an awful lot of fun - and we hope that you will too when it's finally ready!
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be playing at Broadclyst Victory Hall from Thursday 30th January to Saturday 1st February. Performances start at 7:30pm for the January dates and 5:30pm for the final show. Tickets are £8 for adults & £5 for concessions, and are available from Broadclyst Post Office or via TicketSource here. Please put these dates in your diaries now, get your tickets quickly (before they go!), and come and see what promises to be a brilliant family show!
