My second WhatCulture! article in the space of a week concerns a reviewer I've spoken about on the blog before - anime critic Hope Chapman, a.k.a. JesuOtaku. Specifically, it concerns her passion project, the Fruits Basket Radio Drama.
Based on the manga series by Natsuki Takaya, Fruits Basket tells the story of Tohru Honda, a young orphan who comes to live with the Sohma household in Japan. The Sohma family is cursed, with each individual being possessed by a member of the Chinese zodiac, and being able to transform into their given animal purely by touching other humans.
As a relative anime newbie with no prior knowledge of the manga, I love what JO has done with the radio drama. It mixes genuine laugh-out-loud humour with touching romance and some deeply tragic moments, all presented with masterful production. The cast are great and you're bound to find at least one character with whom to bond.
