Further to an earlier post regarding Stanley Kubrick's unused or fictional film titles, today's List of Note surrounds the title of one of his most greatest triumphs.
It's quite well known that changes were made to Dr. Strangelove in the wake of the Kennedy Assassination. The release date was pushed back to January 1964, and Slim Pickens' line: "Hey, a fella could have a pretty good weekend in Dallas with all that stuff!" was redubbed to change "Dallas" to "Vegas", What is less well known in that the film, based on the Peter George novel Red Alert, was never intended to be called Dr. Strangelove.
Located here is a list of all the titles which Kubrick considered for the film which would bring Peter Sellers his first Oscar nomination, bring Kubrick screaming into the mainstream, and reshape the boundaries of both satire and black comedy.
Happy reading - and remember, you can't fight in here, this is a war room!
