FURUBA FRIDAYS: The Other Cast Members

Welcome to another edition of Furuba Fridays, the section of this blog dedicated entirely to the Fruits Basket Radio Drama. Following our look at the last episode to date in last week's post, this week and the following week are dedicated to tying up a couple of loose ends.
When JesuOtaku first embarked upon the radio drama as a summer project back in 2011, it's fair to assume that she underestimated how much time and energy it would take to bring the project to even its current stage. Not knowing how far she would get or in what space of time, she took the precaution of casting every single speaking part in the Fruits Basket manga, including characters who do not appear in the first 36 chapters.
Because the project has been so long in development, and JO's ambitions for it have adjusted accordingly, many of these cast members will probably not get a chance to fully realise the performances which won them the parts. During the course of the drama's production numerous individuals have dropped out, as I mentioned quite a while back when the parts of Kazuma and Megumi were being re-cast. I don't want to make it seem like I'm blaming JO for this: putting this number of episodes together is a Herculean task, particularly when it isn't your main project.
This week, then, I would like to draw your attention to the original cast announcement video that was posted on Blip, so that you may hear the whole cast in its original form and imagine what some of them would have sounded like if/ when their performances were fully realised. Some of them, like Kisa and Hiro, will turn up in Volumes 5 and 6, but others such as Ren and Machi may never see the light of day (the former is a particular highlight). Whether we see and hear them again or not, I hope you enjoy and appreciate their work.

Join us next week for the final Furuba Friday (at least for now), which will include links to all the episodes and perhaps a word or two from JO herself...
